Reflection of game art, week eight

The beginning of week eight we had a trip up to Bradgate park, to continue the skills we have learnt so far and apply then to a large landscape environment. However I unfortunately ended up missing the trip, because of travel reasons. I need to make sure this does not happen again, although It is hard to plan around bad traffic. I plan to travel up to Bradgate park by myself, as I have been many times previously, so that I can complete the task required of myself.

Also this week I worked on my village building model in my Game production lesson. I worked in 3Ds max on making the beams bigger to fit the chunky style, I also tested the model in the game engine, to make sure it fit well within the space, didn't collide with any other objects. I found that compared to other buildings in the village, my model was quite small and for a tavern building, it should be one of the biggest buildings in a village. Therefore I went back in 3Ds max and messed around with the re-sizing tool, to make the building taller and wider.

After the modeling was finished, I then worked on unwrapping and creating the tiling textures. The unwrapping didn't take too long, as most of the building was made up from box shapes, which I then created the uvw maps ready to be textured. While creating the tiling textures for my building, I found it difficult as I had never hand painted my own textures before, which I had to look at some tutorials for help. In reflection I feel I achieved a good building asset, and was really happy with the result of my tiling textures, I will post another blog about my reflection on the village building project and talk about the processes I had to go through in more detail.
