An aspect of game art I feel I achieve good results from is life drawing. When drawing the figure I ask myself questions such as, how are the proportions, is there a lot of perspective / foreshortening and try to achieve these elements in my drawing as well as I can. I begin by lightly marking the proportions, then the weight distribution and finally start adding the anatomy and volume to the figure. I always approach my drawing with this process without thinking to achieve an accurate figure. However this week in life drawing I had to do the complete opposite to what I am used to and draw the negative space, completely ignoring the figure.
Surprisingly my work wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, my negative space drawing resemble where the figure should be and I can make out how the figure should look, from just the silhouette. If I did this task again, I think I would use a larger material such as a graphite pencil to block out the negative space, so that it would take less time and I could concentrate on the shape of the silhouette more. If I were to improve my negative space drawings I would work on my time management, so that I have enough time to work on the whole figure equally, rather that spending more time on the proportions and the top, resulting in the legs being rushed.
